Why do we exist as a group? And why do we gather together? Are two questions we take seriously as Encounter Church. Through much group consultation and discernment we have come to an understanding based on Ephesians 4:11-16, our purpose is to:
- Partner Each Other in growing in Christlikeness
- Develop Each Other in our unique gifts and call
- Encourage Each Other in seeing our whole life as ministry
Direction is where we see our future heading: We see a growing group of people that love Jesus and are passionate about living out His kingdom values in all their spheres of life, including work places, homes, sporting grounds, social groups, and schools. We see a group of people who are actively moving towards Christlikeness in everyday practice, not a people who purport to be perfect or have it together, but who are authentic enough to share their weaknesses and their strengths whilst allowing God via His Holy Spirit to shape them and their future. It is the type of group that if you have known Jesus for 70 years or you heard of Him last week, you’re welcome. It’s the type of group that values authenticity over perfection, that values connection over production, that values giving over receiving, that values relationship over output, that values Love above everything.
Simplicity – we see faith as a vibrant relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
This is punctuated by His command to love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind and soul and love your neighbour as yourself. To this end we will strive for efficiency and effectiveness in all our corporate actions constantly evaluating our actions and processes for excess.
We will make sure we don’t unnecessarily complicate things.
We will not run people ragged for the sake of non-essentials.
Simplicity doesn’t mean not done well.
Empowering – we see the value of faith as the place it intersects with real life.
Therefore we seek to do all things with a direction towards developing, equipping and inspiring people for everyday life with Jesus.
We will always teach and encourage with an eye towards Monday to Saturday.
We will always strive to release people reliant on Christ, not a structure.
Relational – we see the trinity as a model of interdependence of relationship in community
A relationship with Jesus Christ is the key to faith.
Our love of Christ should translate to love of people and sits higher than process and order.
We hold equal value in the wisdom of age and the enthusiasm of youth.
We will actively seek opportunities to bring people together.
We will always see the after service community as important as the service
Generous – we see generosity towards each other and others as an extension of our understanding of what we have been given by God.
We will always seek to help where we can with what we have been given.
Loving – we see the value of love towards others as indicative of our love for Jesus.

We will always seek to live with compassion and mercy.
